What are Trauma Centers?
Trauma Centers are equipped to treat patients who have been in the worst accidents. They house medical specialists, specially trained nurses, and cutting-edge equipment to help those with the most severe injuries.
The injuries usually stem from blunt-force trauma like those wounds suffered in a car accident or in a fall. Victims may have suffered harm due to a machine or tool malfunction at work. Some victims have suffered gun and knife wounds. Victims may have burn injuries or brain damage.
Trauma centers receive their certification from The Florida Department of Health and are ranked anywhere from Level I to Level II. Level I facilities can usually offer the best care and have the most skilled surgeons on call 24 hours a day. There are also Pediatric Trauma Centers dedicated to treating children who have suffered major injuries.
